What we can learn from Amazon

Who could have foreseen that back in 1994 when Jeff Bezos started an online bookstore in his garage in Seattle, his idea would go on to become the largest internet retailer in the world? Something that most of us rely on every.single.day? I sure do.  Even when I don’t want to support the change of our culture, I still open the app because the convenience is just too hard to pass up.

In my opinion, Amazon has changed how we live our lives, and it all started with an offering billed as ‘Earth’s biggest bookstore’.  Since then, the tech giant has definitely changed the way we consume. Fresh food online? Done. Same-day delivery or even within the hour? Absolutely.

Our notion of convenience has been reinvented and will continue to be challenged by Amazon.  Bezos has a relentless focus to ‘obsess over customers' and the desire to make bold rather than timid decisions.

What can we learn most from Amazon?   Customer service.   Serve our customers and clients well, so well they can’t imagine their lives without your business.   Test out new offers, but watch your data closely.   (Remember the time when amazon tried to use local drivers in their own car?  Big bust, but they pivoted quickly).   Know your customer and client so intimately that you can see what they want next from you.

I don’t want to build an Amazon, but I absolutely want my clients to feel they cannot run their businesses without my support and advice.
